This is your opportunity to not only to be social online and on your phones, but also on TV!  Taking Social TV to a completely new level, YouToo, formerly ALN, is the very first network to be dubbed the “first Social TV network.” Up until now, Social TV has included conversations online with computers, mobile devices, and tablets. YouToo expands your ability to netowrk with other fans of the show you are watching by selecting 15 seconds of submitted video to showcase a viewer’s answer to a given question on national TV.

According to YouToo’s website, “Youtoo is the next frontier of social networking.  It’s both a social network and a television network with advanced technology that makes them work together… Today’s social networks only allow you to interact with your friends or followers. But Youtoo allows you to interact with millions on national TV. Plus, it integrates with your current social network so you can share your Yootoo experience with friends.”

By signing into Youtoo and creating a 15 second video, called a “Fame Spot”, you, too can get your 15 seconds of fame ;)

True Blood has been named #1 most influential TV show on Social Media according to Social Media ranking website, Klout. @TrueBloodHBO received a Klout score of 81, 2 points higher than the second place TV show. HBO should be proud of this accomplishment as well as the fact that they were the only network to take two spots in the top 10 list: HBO’s new hit, Game of Thrones took 8th place with a Klout score of 75.

Facebook has made some new changes in the past few days and the new system seems a bit familiar. Facebook changed the way that a user updates their status messages and the options that user has when updating.

One obvious addition, is the choice to decide who receives your updates. You can chose to update the “public”, or all of your friends, or select a “list” that you have created to make the status more private. This function is, oh, so similar to Google + which allows it’s users to update their status messages to certain “circles”.

Another change, Facebook has now made it EXTREMELY easy to tag a friend in a post and add a location to the update. Prior to this change, in order to add a tag or location, users needed to type in the add manually by typing, “@” then the name of their friend/location.

To further simplify things, Facebook has taken out the link to add a link, now allowing users to manually type the link into the status update (as opposed to adding it separately by clicking on the “Add a link” button).

Although, these are all functions that improve Facebook and, despite the fact that Facebook seems to be steadily staying alive in this social media shift, I am unsure how effective Facebook is becoming when compared to other social sites.

Microsoft has released a Social Viewing app in Japan called Tele-Ping. This new app is much like our current TV Guide app, however, it allows users to search for shows to watch and share with their friends, ahead of time, what they will be watching. The product was just released, yet it has gotten 247 stellar reviews so far.

At this time, there is no public plan to bring the app to the US.
